ChartsFM after dark: dark mode is here (and more)

Dark mode

This is the big one. ChartsFM now has a proper, end-to-end dark mode. Every page, every modal, every card, every chart bubble has been swept for dark variants.

There are three options:

  • Light: what you've been looking at this whole time
  • Dark: the new one
  • System: follows your OS preference, so it auto-flips when your phone or laptop does

You can change it in two places:

  • The sun/moon/system icon in the navbar (top right on desktop, inside the menu on mobile)
  • The new Appearance section in your user settings

Your choice persists across sessions, and logged-in users get it mirrored to their account so it carries to new devices.

Two new color themes

While we were in there, Synthwave and Sex on the Beach joined the group theme picker. These are multi-color themes with neon hues that look especially great in dark mode. Give them a try!

The group theme picker itself got a small redesign too: each tile is now a live preview of what the theme actually looks like, instead of just a swatch. Like these (click one to apply it to this page):

Deep-dive page polish

The artist/track/album drill-down pages got a visual pass:

  • The timeline bubbles were slightly reworked for a more uniform look.
  • All dates on the timeline now respect your locale, so Portuguese readers stop seeing English-formatted dates

Charts page

  • Position, plays, and VS changes since last week now show up as red/green change badges next to each entry
  • Position indicators swapped from emoji to FontAwesome icons, looks cleaner and renders the same on every platform
  • Fixed the week-selector calendar, finally. It now renders correctly instead of being clipped by the surrounding sidebar

Records and awards

  • Fixed a bug where member award rankings could include entries from other groups
  • Peak weekly records now display the chart position where the record was set
  • VS values on award entries now keep their decimals (rounding to integers was hiding close calls)

Other things

  • Trends streaks now count any chart appearance. Previously, they only counted top-10 appearances. The group's obsession still only tracks current top 10 entries.
  • Performance: Artist images are cached in our CDN, so they load faster and stop disappearing when Wikimedia rate-limits us.
  • The Discover page got a perf pass: metadata queries are batched and filtering and sorting now happen in the database instead of after the fact.
